Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the team enter places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
